Seeing America with new eyes

For the past week and a half, I had the unique opportunity to escort Dr. Jason Monios across the US to see the Heartland Intermodal Corridor. While I have traveled abroad, normally it was tied to a conference or some event. This trip focused on railroads, ports and terminals, but it also provided Jason with an opportunity to see the diversity that was America. At our first meal, he said he was warned about US portion sizes, but by the weekend he attempted a Thurmanator at the Thurman Cafe in Columbus Ohio (as seen on Man versus Food).

When everyone joined us in Norfolk, it was interesting to hear their discussions with Jason, as each one described their thoughts about transportation, life and American culture.

We also attended the Marshall football game, who fell to West Virginia in overtime. He could not believe everyone was so civil (and sober) at a sporting event.  I can’t believe that Marshall did not win the game!

It is ironic that sometimes we have to talk to others to really appreciate those uniquely American moments we take for granted.
